Laser treatment of condylomata

For the treatment of Warts in the Clinic, Contour TRL Laser by Sciton is known to be effective as it can work as both ErYAG and CO2 ablative Laser. Treatment is intended to remove the Condylomata, not to eradicate the virus from the body. It provides less recurrence and fewer side effects than other treatments.

Laser treatment of condylomata

The treatment aims to remove the Warts, not to eradicate the virus from the
body. It ensures a lower rate than other treatment methods
recurrences and fewer side effects.

How are they caused?

Condylomata Acuminatum are caused 90% by serotypes 6 and 11 of the HPV virus. These types of virus are the most common, however, and HPV 16, 18, 31, 33 and 35 have also been commonly found as co-infection by HPV 6 and 11 types. These types are rarely associated but are more closely related to the occurrence of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) especially in individuals who also have HIV infection. HPV 6 and 11 serotypes have also been associated with the occurrence of corresponding lesions in the nasal, oral or laryngeal mucosa.

What symptoms do they have?

Genital Warts are asymptomatic usually, but they may rarely, depending on the anatomical location, appear to cause pain or itching. Appear mainly in the genital mucosa, in the genital area. They may also appear in the anal area especially in male or female patients who had a history of anal sex.

How can be diagnosed?

The diagnosis of the genital warts is done by clinical examination while the investigation of the participation of the viruses is done through a biopsy required especially in immunosuppressed patients when:

  1. Diagnosis is uncertain,
  2. Genital Warts do not respond to the treatment, or
  3. the disease worsens during the treatment.

The HPV test is not recommended for the diagnosis of warts because these tests are not confirmed.

What is the goal of the treatment?

The treatment is intended for the removal of Warts. In most patients the effect of the treatment is the disappearance of the warts. There is also the possibility that the genital warts will “leave” accidentally without treatment over a year but this possibility is small. Treatments can eliminate the genital warts, but they probably do not neutralize HPV.

What are the treatment options?

The treatment options are many with the most important pharmaceutical options Imiquimod cream, Podofilox sol / gel 0.5%, Sinecatechins 15% ointment and non-pharmaceuticals such as liquid nitrogen cryotherapy, surgical removal, treatment with Tricloroacetic Acid 80-90% solution and Laser.

** The following article in 2012 confirms that Ablative Laser therapy in comparison to Cryotherapy has twice effectiveness and is characterized by a lower percentage of recurrences.
